The social cost of #airpollution has previously been (conveniently) swept under the carpet. This report suggests that emissions from each diesel vehicle in London cost the National Health Services and "society" up to £16,000 p.a. Particularly damning is: 1. "Nearly 90 per cent of all the health costs associated with pollution from cars and vans are down to diesel vehicles." 2. The report comes in the same week as the ICCT report on real driving emissions of diesels... (even Euro 6 are a disaster) 3. It compares premature deaths from air pollution in the UK (ca 40,000) with deaths from smoking (ca 98,000).   In "The Mobility Revolution" (2014) I wrote, "In another decade or two, owning an internal-combustion car will be like smoking cigarettes - something that was done in a bygone age, or by an older generation who can't quit."  Reports like this accelerate the time schedule. https://lnkd.in/eeGTeD6

One of our cars was parked near the highway last night and it was covered in a thick black layer of brake dust this morning.

Impressive that study. We, as customers, should drive the change to new propulsion systems and renewable fuel sources.

A brilliant campaign by Modacity

I liked the bit "ditching the car for walking or cycling in a quarter of journeys would save £1.1bn" that should pay for a few new cycle paths.
